CPSU to attempt to break Agriculture deadlock

Talks are to take place tomorrow in an attempt to break the deadlock in the nine week old strike by clerical officers in the Department of Agriculture.

The strike has caused significant disruption to farmers in counties Limerick, Kerry, Galway, Mayo and west Cork.

It is understood that the Civil and Public Service Union (CPSU), which represents the striking clerical officers, was invited to talks under the auspices of the national implementation body and has accepted the invitation.

The talks will get underway at 4.30pm tomorrow.

The CPSU Agriculture dispute is now in its tenth week and centres on a long standing claim for improved promotional opportunities for clerical workers.

The Department escalated what had been very limited industrial action by removing the workers involved from the payroll in April.
