National Development Plan delayed says IEI

The Institution of Engineers of Ireland (IEI) has claimed that the National Development Plan is up to seven years behind schedule.

The plan, which is designed to overhaul roads and Government services and to increase the country's competitiveness, is due to be completed in three years' time.

However, the IEI in a submission that has been handed over to the Government says it is unlikely to be completed until 2013.

Speaking on RTE radio, the Director General of the IEI, Paddy Purcell, said a mid-term review should take stock of what has been achieved and assess what needs to be done now.
