Fianna Fáil has published a 13-page document defending its record in Government and marking the passing of one year since the General Election.
In a statement, the party said the concerted campaign by the Opposition, which has claimed that Fianna Fáil misled voters, was not true.
The document, called 'Fianna Fáil, The Economy, What We Said' is being sent to Fianna Fáil TDs and councillors.
The party says that, despite the Opposition campaign, its refusal to take the soft option and put the country into crippling debt is the right thing for the short, medium and long term.
Conceding that there is still a lot more to do, the party accepts that we must tailor our expectations to reflect changed circumstances, but says what we do not have to do is indulge in despondency or put ourselves down.
The document takes a chronological look at comments made by the Taoiseach, Charlie McCreevy and Dermot Ahern from October 2001 through to this month, in its efforts to justify its stance on the economy.
It says that throughout 2002, Fianna Fáil found itself in an even tighter fiscal situation than was anticipated the year before, and that position too had been misrepresented to suggest Fianna Fáil had lied to the electorate.
