North Korea blames US for current crisis

North Korea has said the US is to blame for the current nuclear crisis there.

According to the North Korean official news agency, authorities there have indicated that they plan to boost its defences 'to destroy aggressors at a single stroke'.

The news agency said that the US had derailed a decade-old North-South Korea declaration to keep their countries free of nuclear weapons.

It said the declaration which came into effect in 1992, was now a 'dead document.'

The statement came as South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun was in the US for talks with US President George W Bush on how to tackle North Korea's nuclear weapons programme.
