Govt hopes for tourism improvement

The Minister for Tourism, John O'Donoghue, says he remains hopeful that bookings in the industry here will improve with the end of the war in Iraq, but it is too early to say if targets for growth set before the war can still be met.

He was speaking in Killarney at the country's biggest tourism promotion.

More than 300 international tour operators are taking part in the two-day workshop; the industry is worth €5bn to the economy every year.
