Fine Gael TD, Michael Ring, has told the Dáil that he intends to mount a court challenge to new legislation which would abolish the dual mandate.
The Local Government Bill is due to pass through the Dáil this afternoon and will then be referred to President McAleese for signing into law.
Michael Ring has said that if the President does not refer the Bill to the Supreme Court, he will unveil his legal team next week.
