Ministers have held a special Cabinet session focussing on the economy and measures to ensure Ireland remains competitive in the event of an international upturn.
The Cabinet session at Farmleigh in Dublin had been planned as a day-long session.
The issue was made more important following figures last week showing a rise in unemployment, and increased Government borrowing.
