Further talks over North deadlock

The British and Irish governments will make further efforts this weekend to try to resolve the difficulties in the Northern peace process.

Their attempts to find a breakthrough come as the deadline for a decision on the North's Assembly elections quickly approaches.

If the elections are to go ahead as planned the assembly must be dissolved at midnight tomorrow.

The Government says it wants to see the Assembly elections go ahead as planned.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Brian Cowen, is due to discuss the matter when he meets the Northern Secretary, Paul Murphy, on Monday.
