Hungarians are voting in a referendum today on whether to join the European Union.
The centre-left Prime Minister, Peter Medgyessy, has urged Hungarians to turn out in large numbers for the vote, saying he hoped that the majority of voters would say 'yes'.
According to the latest polls, 64% of Hungarians support the country's membership.
If the result of the referendum is positive, Hungary will sign the historic EU accession treaty on 16 April, along with Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia.
