RAF plane shot down by US ground fire

Two British airmen whose RAF Tornado jet fell victim to friendly fire were tonight declared killed in action.

The aircraft was downed by a US Patriot missile close to the Kuwaiti border while returning from a mission over Iraq in the early hours of this morning.

Soldier in custody

A US soldier is in custody after a hand grenade attack at an army camp in northern Kuwait, in which a fellow soldier was killed and 12 others were injured.

The attack took place at Camp Pennsylvania, which is the headquarters of the 101st Airborne Division, close to the Iraqi border.

A soldier is reported to have rolled two grenades into a tent at the camp.
