The Irish Congress of Trade Unions has launched a new information kit on family friendly policies in the workplace.
Assistant General Secretary Joan Carmichael said that employers stood to benefit from facilitating parents in the workplace, as such staff would generally work more efficiently.
She also warned that workers who feared they would lose chances for promotion if they availed of reduced hours working had nothing to fear, as it would be illegal to discriminate against them.
