The Turkish parliament has postponed a vote on allowing US troops to use Turkey as a springboard for a possible attack on Iraq.
The issue could now be decided on Saturday.
The governing Justice and Development Party put off the vote as it was still negotiating with the opposition and the parliament speaker on the issue,
Some 62,000 US troops woould be expected to use local military facilities in the event of a war with Iraq.
Turkey's Defence Minister, Vecdi Gonul, said earlier an agreement had been reached with the US following talks lasting several weeks.
The United States regards Turkey, which has a long border with Iraq, as strategically vital. Washington has offered up to $30 billion in aid to Ankara in return for its help.
