US President George W Bush has said that the United States will next week introduce a new UN resolution stating in 'clear and simple terms' that Iraq is flouting UN disarmament demands.
Mr Bush also said the United States would not wait two months for the United Nations Security Council to adopt the resolution.
Meanwhile, Tony Blair, has discussed the Iraq crisis with Pope John Paul II.
No details of the audience have been revealed, but the Pope's anxieties over possible military action are well known, while Mr Blair is a fervent supporter of the US position.
In a statement issued by the Vatican, the Pontiff repeated that 'every effort should be made to avoid new divisions in the world.'
He is said to believe a conflict in Iraq could unleash terrorism and lead to the deaths of civilians.
