95 dead after US nightclub blaze

It is now reported that at least 95 people were killed and over 150 others were injured when a fire swept through a night club in the United States.

The blaze broke out immediately after a pyrotechnics display at a concert by the rock band Great White at the Station nightclub, West Warwick, Rhode Island.

Stage curtains and ceiling material caught fire straight after the pyrotechnics display, which was about 20 metres from the club's front door. The flames spread very quickly.

Footage from inside the club shows concert goers initially watching the flames, and then panicking when they realise the club is on fire.

West Warwick Town Manager Wolfgang Bauer said he expected the death toll to rise, as some of the injured are in a critical condition.

The band's guitarist, Ty Longley, is among those still missing. Jack Russel, the band's lead singer, said that there were no words to describe how he felt.

The fire comes less than four days after a stampede at a Chicago nightclub crushed 21 people to death.
