Aer Rianta, the Department of Transport and the Irish Aviation Authority are investigating a minor collision at Shannon Airport between a chartered US military jet and another aircraft.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight and involved a Boeing 747 cargo plane and an MD80 aircraft.
The 747 had stopped over in Shannon en route from Seattle to Kuwait and was carrying only crew members on board.
The jumbo was in a remote parking area outside the hangar close to the perimeter fence. It was being pushed back for departure when it hit a parked MD80 aircraft.
A spokeswoman for the Irish Aviation Authority said the MD80 was being put out of service and that there was just some paint damage to the 747.
A spokesman for the Air Accident Investigation Unit in the Department of Transport said a detailed examination of the incident will take place.
A technical examination of the 747 jet has been carried out by an Aer Lingus engineer and the aircraft has been deemed fit to fly.
