Fine Gael has called for a discussion on the replacement of the Government jet, which broke down again this morning.
Foreign Affairs spokesman, Gay Mitchell, said it would not be possible to hold the Presidency of the European Union next year with a jet that does not work.
Arrangements for the Taoiseach's departure from Dublin at the head of a trade mission to Prague had to be changed this morning because of another breakdown in the jet.
A problem was discovered in the plane's hydraulic system before the party of about a dozen people was due to leave for the Czech capital.
An air taxi was hired to replace the Government plane.
The problem was similar to the one which forced Bertie Ahern to travel home from Mexico in a commercial airliner earlier this month.
Mr Ahern is travelling to Prague today on a visit to further develop political and business contacts as the Czech Republic prepares to join the EU.
This afternoon Bertie Ahern will meet with the Czech President, Vaclav Havel, who leaves office at the end of the week. The meeting will be the outgoing President's last official engagement.
The Taoiseach is accompanied by a large business delegation. Trade between the two countries is now worth €380m.
