Labour slams taxi regulator delay

Labour has criticised the Minister for Transport, Seamus Brennan, for delaying the establishment of the taxi regulator on a statutory basis.

Labour's Transport spokesperson, Roisín Shortall, accused the Government of sitting on its hands on this issue.

The Minister for Transport, Seamus Brennan, has said the new regulator should be in place by the end of next month.

Taxi unions have called for an end to new licences being issued until a new regulator is in place to enforce driver standards.

The spokesman for National Taxi drivers Federation, Vinnie Kearns, said the public's safety must be guaranteed.
