Thousands of Australian firefighters have been struggling to control more than 60 bushfires in the Sydney area.
The bushfires, which started almost simultaneously at 3pm local time, have destroyed houses and disrupted power supplies and transport in the city.
Fire officials said the fires did not start naturally, but were accidentally or deliberately lit by people.
