UK blood donor revealed to have developed VCJD

It has has emerged in Britain that a blood donor who gave blood twice in the late 1980s went on to develop the human form of mad-cow disease.

Haemophiliacs in Northern Ireland and Scotland were treated with the blood plasma from the donations between 1987 and 1989.

But British health officials say there is no evidence that CJD has ever been transmitted by blood transfusions or the use of blood products between humans.

All the haemophiliacs who were given the plasma have been sent letters and offered counselling.
