Proposals to ban TDs and Senators from sitting on their local councils have been criticised at a meeting of the Fianna Fáil parliamentary party.
A number of speakers at the meeting in Leinster House expressed strong opposition to the move, according to Fianna Fáil sources.
Environment Minister Martin Cullen is expected to publish legislation on the matter within the next few months.
