Another hospital in the south east has been closed to visitors this afternoon following the reporting of suspected cases of the Small Round Structured Virus (SRSV), commonly known as the winter vomiting bug.
Five patients and two members of staff at St Canice's Hospital in Kilkenny have today reported symptoms consistent with the virus.
The Board is appealing to the public not to visit the hospital in a bid to curb the spread of the suspected virus.
Tests have been carried out and full infection control measures are being implemented.
Waterford Regional Hospital continues to be affected by the virus. The hospital remains closed to visitors as six patients and 21 members of staff continue to suffer from the virus symptoms.
Appeal to public
Meanwhile, Beaumont hospital appealed to members of the public to take extra special care if they are handling fireworks over the next few days.
A spokesman for theHospital, which is still coping with a serious outbreak of the Winter Vomiting Virus, warned that the hospital's A&E department remains under pressure.
‘We have had already had to deal with a number of cases of burns from fireworks during this week,’ the spokesman said.
