Garda Representative Association President, Michael Kirby, has described the new penalty points system for speeding motorists as "ham-fisted".
Speaking on RTÉ Radio, Mr Kirby said his members have not yet been briefed on how the scheme will work.
The GRA president's comments will increase the pressure on the Minister for Transport, Seamus Brennan, who had said the new system would go-ahead as planned despite criticism that it would involve more paper-work for the Gardaí.
Last week, the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors had called for the scheme to be put "on hold".
