The Dublin North-West TD, Róisín Shortall, has said she intends to stand for the leadership of the Labour party.
In a statement, Ms Shortall said she had decided to run because there was a need for the party to take a radical new direction to re-establish itself as a strong and distinctive force.
Her announcement brings to three the number of candidates who have declared in the race to succeed Ruairí Quinn.
The others are the deputy leader, Brendan Howlin, and the Dublin South-West TD, Pat Rabbitte.
