The Northern Secretary, John Reid, has been confronted by angry residents on both sides of the peace line during a walkabout in areas of East Belfast affected by recent sectarian violence.
Dr Reid told people living in one flashpoint area that Republican and Loyalist paramilitaries were not defending their communities in the city but were destroying them.
