The number of new pupils starting at Holy Cross School in North Belfast has fallen by one third compared to last year.
The Chairman of the School Board of Governors, Father Aidan Troy, said he hoped the school would be not be dragged into the current spate of street violence.
Last year, pupils needed to be escorted to the school due to ongoing Loyalist protests demanding that parents take another route.
