Israeli forces killed at least six Palestinians in military attacks in the West Bank and Gaza Strip when up to 30 Israeli tanks invaded the northern Gaza Strip. Troops also fired heavy machine guns during the incursion.
In the West Bank city of Tulkarem, residents said Israeli undercover troops shot dead two Palestinians, one a militant.
The Israeli army said a routine patrol had met resistance but it could not confirm the deaths.
Elsewhere, the head of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades in Tulkarem was killed along with one of his lieutenants by Israeli forces in the West Bank town.
Witnesses said Ziad Daas, the successor of slain Al-Aqsa chief Rayed al-Karmi, was killed along with another member of the militant group in a raid on the town by Israeli special forces, who were backed up by an attack helicopter.
Tulkarem has been under continuous Israeli control since 19 June, when the army poured into the West Bank in a campaign to stamp out militant groups.
