Spain's highest court has sentenced the former leader of the Basque separatist group ETA, to 743 years in jail for ordering an attack on a bus full of soldiers 15 years ago that left two people dead.
Francisco Mugika Garmendia, alias Pakito, was found guilty of ordering an ETA commando unit to commit the attack in Zaragoza against an army vehicle that regularly carried military academy officers.
Two people were killed and another 28 wounded in the attack.
The court also handed down a 743 year jail sentence against one of the outlawed group's explosives expert, Jose Maria Arregui, alias Fiti, for the same attack.
Both Mugica Garmendia and Arregui were arrested in France in 1992 and extradited to Spain in 2000.
Both have been sentenced several times by Spanish courts for previous charges relating to their membership in ETA.
800 people have been killed in ETA's deadly 30-year campaign for independence for the Basque region in northern Spain and parts of southwestern France.
Under Spain's justice system, a convicted criminal can serve a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.
