78 killed in Ukraine air show crash

At least 78 people were killed and 113 injured when a warplane crashed into the crowd attending an air show in western Ukraine.

The incident occurred in the town of Sknyliv, near Lviv, when two jets touched one another in mid-air, sending one spinning into the crowd.

The two pilots on board the plane ejected before it crashed. They escaped unharmed.

Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma broke off his vacation in Crimea to visit the crash site.

The death toll equals the world's worst air show disaster at Ramstein, West Germany, which killed 70 people in 1988.
