Disability rights campaigner Kathy Sinnott has been nominated to run for the Seanad by four Independent TDs. Ms Sinnott missed winning a seat in the Dáil by just six votes to Fianna Fáil's John Dennehy, after a recount in Cork South Central.

She has been nominated by TDs Marian Harkin, Jerry Cowley, Finian McGrath and Seamus Healy, and will contest the Labour Panel in the Seanad elections.

Deputy Harkin said that if elected, Ms Sinnott would highlight the intensive labour element involved in caring for the disabled.
