Maskey elected Belfast Lord Mayor

Sinn Féin Councillor, Alex Maskey, has been elected Lord Mayor of Belfast.

He is the first Sinn Féin representative to hold the position and to receive the support of Allliance, SDLP and Sinn Féin members of the council.

Mr Maskey, who's aged fifty, was interned for almost four years during the 1970s and survived a number of attempts on his life by Loyalist paramilitaries.

Meanwhile the former US President Bill Clinton has opened a peace centre in Enniskillen, built on the site of the Remembrance Day bombing in 1987 in which 11 people were killed.

He was welcomed to the Fermanagh town by the North's Deputy First Minister and SDLP leader, Mark Durcan.
