Students urged to ignore exam distractions

Students across the country have begun the Leaving and Junior Certificate exams. The exams will run until 21 June at 4,500 centres nationwide.

With exams beginning on the same day as the Republic of Ireland’s World Cup game against Germany, organisations like the National Youth Council are warning students not to be distracted by the excitement surrounding the sporting event.

Results of the Leaving Certificate will be released on 14 August with Junior Certificate results available in September.

The Minister for Education said in a statement last night that it was widely acknowledged that this had been a difficult year for students. Michael Woods urged them to use the time left before the exams to keep calm, concentrate on their paper and try not to undergo unnecessary stress.
