The United States Treasury Secretary, Paul O'Neill, and Irish rock star Bono have arrived in Ghana to highlight the need for effective spending on development. The pair are to hold talks with President Kufour and government officials, while Mr O’Neill is expected to make a speech outlining the objectives of their tour, which will take in four African nations.
Bono and Mr O’Neill will visit health clinics and other aid facilities throughout the four nations, while the Treasury Secretary will also attend the annual meeting of the African Development Bank in Ethiopia.
The head of a development agency said Bono's visit can yield results if the U2 star talks tough. John O' Shea of GOAL said he hopes Bono will tell African leaders that international aid must go to those who need it most.
