Up to 160 jobs are to go at a software company with operations in Dublin and Cork. The UK firm Logica made the announcement as part of a restructuring of its operations worldwide. Logica blamed the job cuts on the continuing downturn in the telecommunications sector. Logica develops software and IT systems for mobile phone networks.
Logica employs approximately 520 people in Ireland. The company is cutting 400 jobs from its mobile network staff worldwide. 40% of this section are employed in Ireland. Although the company is not commenting on the exact the number of jobs which will be lost in Ireland, it is believed that 160 jobs could go. The jobs will be cut over the next three months. Logica laid off 90 people here last November.
Logica entered the Irish market five years ago when it bought over the Irish software firm Aldiscon.
