John Bruton has said Fianna Fáil wants the Irish people to sleepwalk into giving them an overall majority.
The former Taoiseach was speaking at a Fine Gael news briefing this morning. He claimed that the real election starts today.
Mr Bruton described the latest opinion poll results, which show Fianna Fáil on course for a return to government, as a wake up call for voters who do not want to see a single party majority government.
He pointed out that the first two IMS polls in the last general election showed no movement in the Fine Gael vote, while the third showed a substantial increase.
He called on all Fine Gael supporters to come out to work for the party.
