Parties have "questions to answer over donations"

John Gormley has said Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the PDs all have serious questions to answer about their track records in relation to donations received and decisions in government.

The Green Party chairman and Dublin South East candidate said the Labour Party was avoiding making corruption a major election issue because it would put a future coalition government with Fianna Fáil under enormous pressure.

He said voters on the doorsteps are constantly raising the issue of sleaze in politics. Mr Gormley said the PD chairman's comments about Campus Stadium Ireland had been opportunistic and hypocritical.

The party outlined a list of pledges, which, it said, would clean up politics. The pledges include the banning of corporate donations and the limiting of personal donations to €650 per year.

The party further promises to limit the amount of money spent between local and national elections. Mr Gormley said the Greens would not support any party in government unless they stuck rigidly to the Green Party's proposals.
