The Progressive Democrats leader has said she anticipates the general election campaign will be tough, but predicted her party will win eight seats. Mary Harney said that the Progressive Democrats were the most written-off party in Irish politics.
Earlier at a business breakfast in Dublin this morning, the Tánaiste said that social and political partnership are essential for the challenges ahead in this country. Ms Harney said social partnership was much more than the Government trading tax cuts for wage moderation and industrial peace.
The leader of the Progressive Democrats said it would be a great loss if a process which helped us solve the crises of near national bankruptcy, high unemployment and mass emigration, did not adapt to the challenge of sustaining success.
Ms Harney said she believed it could adapt, under a more flexible and decentralised form of agreement involving employers, trade unions and Government.
