An elderly pedestrian has died after being knocked down in County Galway. The woman, who was in her eighties, had been crossing the road at Inverin yesterday evening when the accident happened. She is the third elderly pedestrian to die on the roads in County Galway this week. Her husband, who was with her at the time, has been taken to University College Hospital in Galway where his condition is said to be critical but stable.
On Monday night, 87-year-old Eitta O'Sullivan was struck by a car on the Rockbarton Road in Salthill. She later died at University College Hospital. A day later, 77-year-old Brigid Purcill from Menlough was killed crossing the road in Menlough in Ballinalsoe.
