Bug halts Cork hospital admissions

Cork University Hospital will be closed to admissions for at least 48 hours after five patients and eight staff on one of its adult wards developed winter vomiting bug symptoms.

The hospital's Consultant Medical Microbiologist says that it is too soon to say whether this is SRSV. Dr Bartley Cryan said that the affected patients and staff have been isolated as a precautionary measure. He added that the hospital will be closed to admissions until the extent of this outbreak is fully determined.

Cork University Hospital is limiting visitors to direct next of kin for critical patients only. The situation is to be reviewed on Friday, 8 March.
