The author and comic Spike Milligan has died. His agent said that he died of liver failure early today at his home in Sussex. He was 83.
Spike Milligan was born in India, where his father was an Irish captain in the British army. He was best known for his work in the 1950s on the groundbreaking radio comedy, the Goon Show, in which he appeared with Peter Sellers, Harry Secombe and sometimes Michael Bentine.
In later years, he was diagnosed as a manic-depressive and worked to help people suffering from the condition.
