The Palestinian leader has pledged to resume security talks with Israel as a Saudi peace initiative gains support within Israel and abroad.
The Palestinians suspended security talks with the Israelis on Sunday after Ariel Sharon's government announced it would release Yasser Arafat from his West Bank headquarters in Ramallah, but confine him to the city. He has been under virtual house arrest since early December.
Mr Arafat's pledge came, last night, following a meeting with the EU Foreign Policy chief, Javier Solana.
