Five Palestinian policemen have been killed in raids by Israeli forces during an incursion into the central Gaza Strip. Israeli tanks and soldiers were also said to have entered two towns in the north of the Strip.
The move followed reports that rockets were fired into Jewish settlements inside the territory. This latest violence comes as the British and German Foreign Ministers travel to the region in another attempt to revive the Middle East peace process.
