Objectors to the proposed construction of an office block opposite Kilmainham Gaol have described the development as "preposterous". In a video presentation to a hearing by An Bord Pleanala, the objectors said that the three and six story development was devoid of any character. They claimed that the structure would dwarf the 206-year-old gaol, which they described as "a national monument".
The objectors claimed the offices would become "dead space" at weekends and holidays when thousands of visitors are around. The proposed development is being made by a subsidiary of Treasury Holdings. The hearing at the Gresham Hotel in Dublin is expected to last two days.
