Three people have been killed tonight in an exchange of shots in a Jewish settlement in the West Bank. Israeli military sources said a Palestinian open fire inside the Hamra settlement and a gun fight ensued, during which the gunman, an Israeli soldier, and an Israeli woman were killed.
Meanwhile, a special envoy for Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has asked Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat to do more to curb attacks by extremist groups if the Middle East peace process is to advance.
Mubarak sent his intelligence chief Omar Suleiman yesterday for closed talks with Arafat in Ramallah, where the veteran Palestinian leader has been confined by Israel for more than two months.
