A four-member team from the International Red Cross has arrived at the American naval base of Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. The team is to examine the conditions under which Taliban and al-Qaeda fighters, captured in Afghanistan, are being held.
The visit is expected to last several days. The delegation includes a doctor and an official fluent in the languages spoken by the prisoners.
A Red Cross spokesman said that they would look at the detainees' treatment and conditions and would share their findings confidentially with the United States. Another 30 prisoners arrived at the base earlier, bringing the total now in custody there to 110.
