The US President, George Bush, has urged Iran to become an active member of the coalition against terrorism. President Bush added, however, that he hoped Iran was not harbouring members of the al-Qaeda network who have fled Afghanistan.
Mr Bush was voicing concern in some American quarters that Iran may be trying to increase its influence in border regions of western Afghanistan.
Mr Bush also warned that the coalition would deal with Iran if it tried to destabilise the new Afghan government in Kabul. Iran has denied the suggestion.
