The Palestinian Authority has said that says that it will investigate allegations that Palestinians had ordered a shipment of arms seized by Israeli forces.
The Palestinian leader, Yasser Arafat, denied the allegations. However, a senior official said that Mr Arafat had ordered an internal investigation and vowed to punish anyone found to have been involved.
The arms were seized aboard a ship in the Red Sea last Friday. Israel claimed that the ship's captain and some of its crew were members of the Palestinian Naval Police Force.
