Palestinian leaders have repeated a call to the United States to send its special Middle East envoy, Anthony Zinni, back to the region. They want him to continue the search for a ceasefire and new peace talks.
Mr Zinni was sent to the Middle East in November. However, he was recalled to Washington three weeks later after failing to bring about a ceasefire. The State Department said that he would return only when his presence looked likely to lead to a halt in the violence.
