Most Britons expect to join single currency

A clear majority of Britons now expect the country to join the euro within a decade, according to a poll published today. The survey found that some 62% of people thought Britain would be in the euro zone after ten years.

This is twice the number who believed it would happen when the same question was asked last year. Eleven per cent wrongly believed that sterling was due to be abolished and replaced by the euro in the New Year.
