Islamic Jihad claim responsibility for attack

Islamic Jihad, the Palestinian radical movement, has claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing in Israel yesterday evening. Four people died in the attack.

The US special peace envoy to the Middle East, Anthony Zinni, has restated his determination to secure a cease-fire in the region, despite the recent spate of violence.

The Palestinian Authority earlier condemned the attack, which killed three Israelis. The Authority said that its security forces had been ordered to find the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

The suspected suicide bomber also died in the blast, which destroyed a bus near the Northern Israeli town of Hadera.

Israeli police are now on a high state of alert. Around 2,500 police have been deployed to Jerusalem to prevent further attacks. Extra police have also been sent to the Saron coastal valley, north of Tel Aviv.
