Noonan brands Government “most incompetent” ever

The Fine Gael leader has said that at the time of our greatest boom Ireland has to suffer the most incompetent government in the history of the State. Michael Noonan was speaking to delegates at the Young Fine Gael national conference in Nenagh, County Tipperary.

He also accused the present Government of squandering Ireland’s boom because they took a short sighted view and failed to realise that the boom would not go on forever.

Mr Noonan said that perhaps the most shocking aspect of this Government’s incompetence is their failure to use the boom to remove the structural inequalities of our society.

He said that as we reach the end of the boom thousands of young people still leave school without any kind of qualification, often with literacy problems.

He added that for many third level education is out of reach and for many others the Celtic Tiger has widened the gap between the less well off and the better off.

The Fine Gael leader said that his party’s vision is to provide for a compassionate Ireland, which is fair and even-handed to all.
